W7 make up review

I was very fortunate to be sent a few products from W7 and Playboy Makeup to review. I’ve decided to do it in 2 parts so this doesn’t get TOO much of an essay.

First up… “W7 Skin Fresh Concealer” (£4.95 RRP from http://www.w7cosmetics.co.uk)

image

The concealer comes in a tube, which is handy and hygienic, easy to squeeze out the amount desired and no wand applicator that can gather germs. The packaging is simple and the shade is written clearly on the packaging.

image

image

They sent me their lightest shade “Fair” which unfortunately is still too dark for me, however, I’m not your typical “fair” skinned girl, I’m a complete ghost. As long as you can normally find your shade within the lighter shades of drugstore foundations this concealer will work for you.

That aside, I still tried it out to test its coverage. Its quite thick in consistency, probably better suited for blemishes rather than your under eye area to conceal dark circles and such. Its a medium coverage, definitely enough to cover average blemishes, discolouration, mild scarring.

It wears well for about 4\5 hours. But you could easily pro long that by setting it with primer/powder/setting spray.

All in all a nice product. I’m disappointed I won’t actually be able to make use of this but I’ll be passing it off to my mum who I’m sure will enjoy it.

Next up…

“Angel eyes – Out on the town” eye-shadow palette (£6.95 RRP http://www.w7cosmetics.co.uk)

image

image

I was so happy with the colour range when I first had a peek inside. The perfect combination of matte and shimmer in all the right colours. A base colour, a highlight (which was actually more of a match on me but as mentioned before that’s just me being as pale as it gets), transition and a darker matte to smoke it out… And some pretty shimmers.

image

On the cover of the palette, it claims the shadows are “silky”. When I swatched them I agreed with that statement straight away. They are like butter… Very soft, very silky… Just glides onto the skin very beautifully and smoothly. The swatches shown above are one swipe. I think packing on more than that would help give the colours a little more intensity. So far so good…

I then gave the eye-shadow palette a go. I used the lightest shade as a base, second lightest blended through my crease as a transition, third shade as lid colour and the darkest in the outer corner to smoke it out. Sounds pretty right? But here’s the problem I encountered, the shadows blended into each other TOO well. Even with very light handed blending it just blended into one big greyish shimmer. I think this palette will still work as a lid colour only type deal, but trying to use multiple colours together probably won’t show up as anything more than a bit of a smudgy mess.

Also, from the 3rd shadow onwards, there is alot of fallout. So doing your eye make up before foundation would be essential, so you can clean up without ruining your face. Or use shadow shields (or much easier… A bit of tissue to catch any fall out)

I personally won’t be reaching for this much. I love the first 2 shades for a nice base/transition but I prefer palettes that I can achieve a whole look with as I don’t like using a single shadow from lots of different palettes.

Lastly for this post…

W7 Zoom mascara (£4.95 RRP http://www.w7cosmetics.co.uk)

image

Now this I was unsure of. I had previously purchased another w7 mascara and hadnt been much of a fan of it. But I tried to keep an open mind…

image

This is my preferred wand style… I feel like it’s easy to coat every lash, and doesn’t get clumpy. So this was a good start. I curled my lashes as usual then gave this a test run… And I FELL IN LOVE. Its a fabulous mascara for volumising your lashes without them getting clumpy and spider leg looking. After one coat I couldn’t believe how pretty my lashes were. After a second coat, even more lovely. I didn’t even feel like I needed my false lashes after! Haha. I do have quite long eyelashes naturally though which is important to point out. Mascara doesn’t hold any magical qualities. But for volumising and separating what you’ve got and making your lashes super black…this is perfect. I’ll definitely be repurchasing this when I run out.

Well that’s it for part 1! Hope this has been helpful to you guys if you are thinking about trying out w7! I’ve been using their products for some time and really love their eye-shadow base, brow gel and in the buff/in the nude palettes (Urban Decay Naked 1&2 dupes) Next post will be about the lipsticks from w7 and playboy makeup.

Thanks for reading
Much love

Hourglass Ambient Lightning Powder

IMG_9435.PNG
So just a quick review from me today!! After hearing about this for months and all it’s amazing reviews I just couldn’t help myself and had to jump on the bandwagon! I was slightly sceptical at first, how can this powder transform my makeup so dramatically???? But it’s safe to say it is incredible!!!

At £38 I really wanted to get my perfect shade the first time round, so I got diffused light a yellow based cream powder and with the recommendation of Wayne Goss, saying it’s the shade for all us pale skinned girls!

IMG_9432.JPG
Diffused Light is supposed to “reduce redness and give skin clarity.” Like all of the shades within the new range, it is supposed to be suitable for all skin tones. The larger idea behind the Ambient Lighting Powders is that they help to make your skin look like it’s been lit by soft, diffused light; think having a bit of a photographer and his lighting crew follow you around, except in powder form.

Some people mistake these powders for highlighters but they aren’t at all, they are finishing powders that can be applied to different parts of the face to create the perfect light effect on your face at all times!

I like to apply mine after all my face makeup is finished, using a real techniques blush brush I lightly dust under my eyes on my forehead and down my nose, it just gives you that healthy glow but no way is it shimmery!

IMG_9431.JPG
Overall Must say this is a 10 out of 10 for me! I most certainly will be wearing this on my wedding day it really does create such a flattering finish, it’s hard to describe just quite what it does for your think but just think flawless!

IMG_9434.JPG
This is incredibly hard to swatch but this is it dusted over my hand you can see the gorgeous sheen it gives! Ahhhhh I love it!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

My go to palette! Too Faced à la mode review

IMG_9029.JPG
So afew weeks ago I asked what kind of things people want to see reviewed and my go to eyeshadow palette came up a number of times! In all honestly I have so many eyeshadows I mix and match on the daily but I decided to talk about this one as I find it the most versatile and has some of my most reached for shades. Anyone that follows me will know I love a neutral brown smokey eye I’m not really big on colours for my everyday look, but with this palette it does have the right amount of colour & neutral shade balance it’s perfect for that simple smokey eye of if you want to mix it up with a pop of colour you have that option aswell!

IMG_9031.JPG
So let’s start by what too faced describe this palette as:

Too Faced A La Mode Eyes Sexy St Tropez Eye Shadow Collection is a gorgeous collection of summery shades to create bright and fresh eye makeup looks.
Capture a summer sunset in St. Tropez and say Ooh La La to this sensational collaboration of coral, golden pink and fiery copper hues. This indulgent eye shadow palette utilises Too Faced’s revolutionary silky smooth eye shadow formula which blends seamlessly and delivers vibrant colour with pure pigments for true colour payoff with an airbrushed effect.

First of all I will say this is a summer palette but as I understand it will be permanent for the time being so don’t worry you can still pick it up!

So let’s jump in with the shades
Described below
St. Tropez – Soft beige shimmer.
Cannes – Fiery copper.
Soleil – Rich chocolate shimmer.
Riviera – Pale peachy nude.
Jardin – Golden coral shimmer.
Cote D’Azur – Shimmering pewter.
La Croisette – Matte ivory.
Monaco – Fuchsia pink shimmer.
De La Mer – Deep navy blue.

IMG_9039.JPG

IMG_9041.JPG

IMG_9044.JPG
I find I reach for riviera for my lid and Soleil for my outer v the most out of all the sades in the palette, however i’ll also use Cote D’Azur as a transition shade or for a more subtle smokey eye, and De La Mer for a real intense smokey eye normally if I’m going out or just feeling extra vampy that day, one of the things I love also about this palette is with a light hand you can use any of the lighter shades as a highlight even Jardin looks gorgeous swept over your cheekbone blended into blush 👌

This palette retails for £28.48 on beautybay.com I love to purchase my high end makeup from there as there is always a sale on or a free sample thrown in with a order!

My final thoughts
The only thing missing from this palette in my opinion is a good matte brown shade for transition! So if you are travelling or on the go you will need to grab one from your collection to go along with it but that is just my personal preference, it is also a very shimmer heavy palette so if you are more the matte shade lover it may not be for you but the shadows are of such a high quality, smooth & blendable I just can’t fault it! Like I said before u tend to mix and match with other shadows but you can quite easily create loads so many looks with this I will defiantly be repurchasing in the future!!!

Benefit they’re real! push-up liner

So after posting about the benefit they’re real push up liner afew weeks back on Instagram Iv had so many questions about it so today I will clear up how I feel about it

RRP: 18.50

IMG_8711.PNG
Benefit describe this as the FIRST EVER lash-hugging gel liner in a pen! This matte black gel formula won’t smudge, budge or dry out, and the innovative soft AccuFlex™ Tip hugs your lashline from corner to corner. The closer the line, the bigger the eye!

The first thing I will say about this description is that it is indeed very matte black and that I LOVE, however there is something not quite right with the formula, i tend to find the first application goes on nice and creamy but the next click is much more clumpy.. It drags on the lid SO much and that is the biggest NO NO in eye beauty!! It’s very hard to get a crisp flick and I don’t think someone new to winged liner would get on well with this at all! I find I have to go in with a liquid liner to clean up the lines and that’s way to much effort!

In conclusion I will carry on using it untill it runs out as I’d did cost a pretty penny! But would I repurchase???? Not right now, not unless they improve the formula and untill then I will happily stick with a pot of gel liner and angled brush! 👍

Would love to hear everyone’s views on this! Have you got it let me know what you think!! 😘

Make up Revolution eyeliner pens review

I recently ordered a few new bits from Makeup Revolution. In that haul I got a couple of eyeliner pens. When they were launched I was so excited as I’m a big fan of felt tip style liquid eyeliners.

Make up revolution Double Flick & Kohl and flick liquid eyeliners  (£3.50 each)

image

I got the ‘Awesome Double Flick liquid eyeliner’ and the ‘Awesome dual eyeliner Kohl & flick’

image

I was very excited about this Kohl & Flick eyeliner. Everything I need in one pen! I always use gel/liquid eyeliner on my lid and Kohl for tightlining/waterline.

image

The Kohl side of the pen is a twist up as opposed to a pencil, which I prefer. It glides nicely and applies a strong pigmented matte black. The other side is a ‘precise’ liquid eyeliner, which I’ll go into more detail in with the double flick eyeliner pen.

image

image

The double flick liquid eyeliner has two liquid felt tip pen style tips. One is more pointed, the “precise” liner. This side can be used to create extremely thin and precise lines, perfect for drawing on that extra sharp wing! The other side is a little thicker and less pointed but still very precise. This side will create a little thicker of a line. My favourite method for using this eyeliner is drawing my lash line on thick using the thicker pen tip, carving out a wing with the precise side, and filling in with the thicker side.

image

(I used the Double flick liquid eyeliner in this photo)

The liner is long lasting and pretty smudge proof. My new favourite, eyeliner. I love it, especially for £3.50!

Much love

Elarner’s Top 3 Highlighters!!!

So one of the biggest craze in beauty these days is contour & highlight right? I know I jumped on the band wagon and now I can’t leave the house without it!!!

IMG_8513.JPG

So today I will be reviewing my three favourite highlighters ranging from high end, to very affordable and in three different shades, and let me say I believe any skintone can use any shade of highlighter! A lot of people worry that if it is to silver toned it won’t show up or if it is to bronze they will look over the top (I used worry the same!) however with a light hand and the right tool (I find a fan brush best) you really can use whatever tickles your fancy!!

Let me start buy giving the run down of what highlighters are used for, there are afew different types of highlighters out there and they have different purposes, today we are looking at shimmer highlighter powders. You apply these along the top of cheek bone, cuspids bow, brow bone and I also like to pop a little on the tip of my nose all to give that illusion of a youthful, fresh complexion, but of course you can use it in other areas this is just my personal preference.

IMG_8516.JPG

So let’s get started with the best value of the three
ELF Baked Blush “Pinktastic”
and as you may have guessed it’s actually not a highlighter at all, it’s a baked blush! However this IS a highlighter you just couldn’t use this as a blush unless you are trying to look like a fairy princess in that case knock yourself out 😜

This highlighter is pink based, however the veins that run through give it that gorgeous mix of pink & beige and they create the most gorgeous colour together! I find it’s not the longest lasting highlighter out there but for £3 I’m happy to retouch it after afew hours!

IMG_8515.JPG
Next we move on to my personal holy grail
MAC Cosmetics Mineralize skin finish “lightscpade”
Anyone that follows me on Instagram will know I’m a total M.A.C addict and can do little wrong in my eyes, but they really did create a wonderful product here!

This is the most beautiful yet subtle highlighter, no chunky glitter just the a smooth blendable shimmery silver! This also has gorgeous veins of blues & yellows running through it and oh my it really is perfect! It truly is one of them products I will always reach for and lasts a good 6-8hours! And for £23 it’s actually very good value for money because of the sheer amount of product you get!

IMG_8514.JPG
Last but not least we have my high end pick
Bobbi brown shimmer brick “bronze”
Let me start by saying the is quite pricey even for me coming in at £32.50, so I really did have to take time to decide what shade I wanted as I won’t be getting another anytime soon! After researching for a while I settled on the shade “Bronze”, and gosh I’m so glad I did! I never used to reach for a bronze highlight purely because I’m so pale I was always worried I’d look rather strange and it would be VERY obvious that I had it on my cheeks, but Iv been pleasantly surprised!!

This has 5 shades that you mix together an results in a gorgeous light gold shimmer that like the mac is not chunky and blends like a dream! I find I can wear it all day with no touch ups and it just stays put!

So that is it my three faves!!! If you have any or try them after this l’d love to know what you think!

Much Love! Elarner XoXoXoX

Chanel soleil tan de Chanel VS Maybelline dream matte mousse sun bronze… DUPE ALERT!

Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel vs Maybelline Dream Matte Mouse “Sun Bronze”

DUPE ALERT!

20140806-044052 pm-60052385.jpg

So after trying the chanel soleil afew weeks ago on recommendation of a friend i had play with hers and OMG talk about contour heaven! 🙌 seriously it was so easy to use and blended out like a dream! So I had a hunt for one and after seeing how expensive it was I just can’t justify nearly £40 on another bronzer right now (I have a million and 1 already) so I did some serious homework trying to find a dupe yet after googling my little heart out I wasn’t having very much luck…. until I stumbled on a YouTube video with only about 4 views (I wish I knew her name to shout her out! Sorry!) and she was using the Maybelline dream matte mouse foundation as a bronzer … A foundation you say? Whatttt??? Lol but then I had an lightbulb moment! This could well be my dupe! The mousse formula is exactly the same concept, it is matte …no shimmer… Blends amazingly….I need to try this

20140806-043310 pm-59590745.jpg

So I picked up the shade sun bronze from Superdrug (boots doesn’t stock this shade) and I can’t believe how much of a dupe it is! In fact it’s better as you actually have a choice of shades unlike the Chanel’s standard one, I find it works best with the real techniques contour brush it fits perfectly in the little pot and blends the product seamlessly!

20140806-043440 pm-59680121.jpg

Left is a heavy swatch right is blended in natural light)

So on conclusion you need this in your life! I’m so happy I didn’t splash out on the Chanel! As a lover of high end products it’s easy to get caught up on a name and pretty packaging but why spend more if you don’t have to? You can just buy more makeup with the money you save!!!! Hehe! I hope this helps someone looking for a good contour product any questions please feel free to ask!!

Much love Larny XOXOXO

Hi Beautifuls!

I’m Lois, you may know me off Instagram, but it’s hard to really tell you about myself on just a photo caption, so here you’ll be able to get to know me better, as well as in depth reviews and the occasional tutorial!

I’ve teamed up with my friend Elarner and together we created “Beautiful Darkness ” The name inspired by both  being pale ladies with dark hair! We’re both in the Make up artistry industry, so we thought putting our passion for make up together in one place could be a pretty cool thing! We hope you think so too!

So more about me. I’m 22, I live in Surrey, which is on the border of London, I’m a self taught MUA. I have 2 beautiful children, both boys. When it comes to make up I am a hardcore drugstore junkie. I love me some affordable yet quality make up that doesn’t break the bank. You can expect a lot of reviews on make up under £10.

I’m also a big fan of out of the ordinary make up. I find having rainbow eyeshadow and blue lips way more fun than a neutral look! But now and again I rein it in a bit and try and go natural 😁

Other than that I can’t think of much else. But I’m sure you’ll learn more about me through reading my blog posts, and future videos. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and we are so excited to have you join us on this exciting journey! Love & Kisses

Lois.
